A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that can be implanted surgically into a person’s cochlea that enables a person with hearing loss to recognize sound and provide signals to the brain. A cochlear implant may help someone with hearing loss restore or improve the ability to hear and understand speech. A cochlear implant in infants and toddlers may help them listen and learn to speak.
